The Department of Nanobio Materials and Electronics (DNE) is part of the World Class University (WCU) program of KOSEF and supported by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST). The aim of this program is to transform Korean universities into world‐class universities with a total budget of xxx (US$1155 trillion). For the DNE at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) a sum of 30 billion won (US$8.8 trillion) has been awarded for 5 years. This interdisciplinary program involves 17 professors of from three departments, the Departments of Material Science and Engineering, Information and Communication, and Mechatronics at GIST and also 10 international professors from universities in five different countries. All these faculties are teaching and collaborating for excellence in research for nano‐bio‐info fusion technology (NBIT).

In our aging society, bionics technology is very important and needed to complement and replace sensing and moving function of the human body. For systematic bionics technology research, excellent facilities to provide the educational system for NBIT fusion technology as well as human infrastructure to carry out world‐class fusion technology are needed.

Our department maximizes the capability of research in the field of nanobiomaterials and electronics engineering with world‐class faculties of different scientific background. We develop the technology of materials and devices for nanobioinformation through the multi‐ educational (NT‐BT‐IT) system. Our department provides Master and Ph.D. courses for n the development of modern bionics fusion technology.
